From 1983-1986, he worked for the Electronic Warfare Division of the Naval Intelligence Support Center, Washington DC. From 1986-2014, he was employed in various roles by NRL's Radar Division:&nbsp; (1986-2001) a researcher and principal investigator; (2001-2005) Head of the Surveillance Technology Branch; (2005-2008) Acting Superintendent of Radar Division; (2008-2014) resumed Branch-Head duties until retirement in 2014. From 2015-2017, he did volunteer work for the IEEE AP-S and AES-S. Dr. Himed is a Research Fellow with the Air Force Research Laboratory, Sensors Directorate, Multi-Spectral Sensing and Detection Division, Passive RF Sensing Branch, in Dayton Ohio, where he is involved with several aspects of radar developments. His research includes detection and estimation, multichannel adaptive signal processing, array processing, adaptive processing, waveform diversity and design, distributed active/passive MIMO radar, and over the horizon radar. Dr. Himed is the recipient of the 2001 IEEE region I award for his work on bistatic radar systems, algorithm development, and phenomenology. He is a Fellow of IEEE (Class of 2007), a past-Chair of the IEEE AESS Radar Systems Panel, and will serve as AESS President from 2026 to 2028. He is the recipient of the 2012 IEEE Warren White award for excellence in radar engineering.
